Some sites to visit:

Wooowww!!! What a great morning we had yesterday! I was VERY impressed with the workmanship that you put into yesterday’s assignment. It’s not an easy thing to do but I saw great ideas and use of technology being integrated into your lessons. Again, we’re looking at ‘blending’ the technology in with the lessons. We’re not looking at using the technology for a whole class – rather we’re looking at where a technology or web tool could be used to enhance a segment of the lesson. I’m sure that it is no different here in Dominica as it is in Canada in that anytime we can bring technology into the lesson, the students are captivated.

I saw teachers using Voki’s to introduce a lesson, wikipages being constructed to assist in the delivery of the lesson, Wordle being used as part of the lesson, Prezi being used as a means of presenting the lesson, JamStudio being incorporated, our Superhero generater being used in a descriptive essay lesson – and it goes on and on!!! FANTASTIC!!!

My only hope for you is that you will be able to use these lessons in the classroom. Like everything else, in time you will have the equity that will allow your students to work with the technological tools and be ‘creators of knowledge!’

I’m looking forward to you presenting how you planned to incorporate the various web tools into your lessons. As we listen to the presentations, I hope you make an earnest effort to respectively and actively listen to how the web tools are being blended into the lessons. We can all learn from each other!

I’m hoping that after each little presentation, the presenters will be open to some constructive criticism which is meant to help you – not to hurt you. With this inmind, please offer ideas that the presenters can take and use to modify their lessons.

The two wiki’s that we have been using, I will continue to maintain and update them. So you should have a resource that you will be able to refer to when there is a need to do so. The two sites are:
  1. Course wiki – http://2011dominicaproject.wikispaces.com
  2. Class wiki where we’ll save our lessons to – http://natureisland2011.wikispaces.com

The second wiki (the class wiki), I’m hoping that we will continue to upload your lessons to the “zzLESSON PLANS FROM OUR GROUP”page. Currently in my school division, teachers get four days to meet and collaborate. During this time, teachers work together to create lessons/units for their classes. By working together, they are able to create awesome units that ALL teachers benefit from. Like our LESSONS page, we have a repository or library where ALL the collaborative work is save to. This allows teachers from throughout our district to retrieve these units and use them as they see fit. The units are ‘first class’ so the teachers can use them knowing that a lot of work has gone into them.

We have something started here and if the interest and desire is there, it could blossom into a very useful resource. Like everything else though, it takes time and commitment. Dominica might not be quite ready for this but the seed has been planted!

After we do our presentations and you are up to the challenge of looking at a few more sites, I would like to introduce you to:

  • Animoto - using this site, you can make professional looking videos! http://animoto.com/ . We'll have to make sure that we have about 12 to 15 images to use in producing this video. That's about it! We then select some music from the Animoto site to use in the background - add a few text boxes and Animoto then produces a professional quality video!!!
  • Audacity - I'm hoping that Ferdy and Patrick will be able to install this program - it has a lot of potential within the classroom!!
